Obituary for Athanacious P. "Arthur" Kourouvacilis

Athanacious "Arthur" P. Kourouvacilis, 87, of Springfield, beloved husband of the late Eleanor (Martin) Kourouvacilis passed away peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 27, 1928, in New Bedford, MA; a son of the late Peter and Zaharula (Sainin) Kourouvacilis. Arthur was a resident of the city of Springfield since 1958, he was a retired Sergeant with the Springfield Police Department for 28 years, and was owner and operator of Reliable Reality for over 40 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. He enjoyed the ocean, camping, fishing trips, singing along to music and playing the trumpet. Most of all he enjoyed being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his seven children, Katie Skrok and her husband Steven of Springfield, MA, Venus Kourouvacilis of Springfield, and her companion Christopher Neville, Diane Kourouvacilis of Springfield, Mary Kourouvacilis-D’Angelo and her husband Aurelio of Somers, CT. Peter Kourouvacilis and his wife Sandra of Weston, FL, Georgia Kourouvacilis-Nadler and her husband Robert of Somers, CT. and John Stephen Kourouvacilis of Springfield, MA; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Eleanor he was predeceased by two siblings Stephen Kourouvacilis and Vaso Delaney. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main Street, Somers, CT followed by committal at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA. A visitation hour will be held prior to the service Tuesday from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Donations in Arthur's memory may be made to the Heritage Dialysis Center, 67 Cooper Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
