Frederick N. Zeytoonjian
Frederick "Fred" Nubar Zeytoonjian, Sr. of Somers, CT, beloved husband of Betty Anne (Fetler) Zeytoonjian for 52 years, died at the age of 80 on June 23rd at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN after a short battle with cancer.
Fred was born in Boston, MA to Charles and Rose (Borzakian) Zeytoonjian on August 3, 1935. Charles, an Armenian immigrant, was one of only four in his family of fourteen to survive the Armenian genocide. Fred grew up in Jamaica Plain, MA in a three family home with his grandmother, parents, uncles, aunts, brothers and cousins. He met Betty Anne in high school when she dropped her books on the sidewalk; he picked them up, walked her home, and the two were married on December 15, 1963, remaining together until Fred’s passing. A business graduate of Boston University, Fred was an independent businessman his entire career - 46 of those years as CEO of Turf Products Corporation, a distributorship for The Toro Company, which he founded in 1970. Fred left a legacy of love for family, travel, photography, humor, and a strong work ethic. Fred loved New England sports teams and was a New England Patriots season ticket holder for all 56 years of the team's existence. Supporting the Armenian church and the apostolic religion was of critical spiritual importance to Fred. In 1983 he was honored by being appointed Godfather of St. Mark Armenian Church by the Armenian dioceses of North America.
Fred is survived by his wife Betty Anne (Fetler) Zeytoonjian, his three sons: Fred Zeytoonjian Jr. and his wife Karen of Arlington, VA, Douglas Zeytoonjian and his wife Kimberly of Farmington, and Mark Zeytoonjian and his wife Kellie of Hartford; six loving grandchildren, Anton and Forester, Hunter, Mackenzie, and Alexandria, and Finley Zeytoonjian; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
