Stanley Merrill  Griffin
Stanley M. Griffin, 85, of Windsor Locks, beloved husband of 59 yrs to Johni (Bishop) Griffin passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Blair Manor Nursing Home in Enfield, CT. He was born on October 4, 1930 in Hebron, CT the son of the late William & Ellen (Olin) Griffin. Stanley was a graduate of Windham High School and attended New Britain State Teachers College. He played football and was known as Silk City’s best offensive runner and also the “Hebron Hurricane”. Stanley also played baseball and tried out for the Boston Red Sox. Stanley proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a resident of Windsor Locks for 43 years. Stanley was a member of the Gensi-Viola Post # 36 American Legion of Windsor Locks. He retired from Pratt & Whitney (UTC) in 1992 after 37 years. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, camping, fishing, baseball, football, and coaching. He was known for his love of the New England Patriots, Girls UConn Huskies and Boston Red Sox. Stan was also an umpire for ASA. In addition to his wife, Stanley is also survived by his daughters, Tami-Lu Flannery of Florida, Lisa Savage and husband David of Enfield, Laurie Harrison and husband Andrew of Somers. Stanley also considered Halcy Blue an adopted daughter. Stanley is further survived by his grandchildren, Laurisa Flannery of New Hampshire, James Hubbard of Enfield, Kaycee Hubbard of Somers, Gunnar and Gabe Harrison of Somers; two great grandchildren Emrick Hubbard and Hunter Heapes; sisters Lillian Brown of Colchester, and Beverly Dufresne and husband Rod of East Lyme; brothers Robert and Howard Griffin both of Hebron, and a cousin Richard Hills and his wife Shirley of Tolland whom he always thought of as a brother and many nieces and nephews. Stanley was predeceased by a grandson, Keith Forbes and two sisters, Evelyn Latham and Marion Rebillard and four brothers, brothers Donald, Irving, Kenneth and William Jr. Stanley’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Hospital For Special Care in New Britain and at Blair Manor Nursing Home in Enfield for the wonderful care he received. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from 5-7pm at Windsor Locks Funeral Home 441 Spring St, Windsor Locks. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at 11:00am in Grove Cemetery on South Main Street Windsor Locks.
