Norman Shabarekh, 78, of Windsor Locks loving husband of 52 years to Elizabeth “Liz” (Porcaro) Shabarekh entered into Eternal Rest on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Hartford Hospital with his family by his side. Norm was born December 10, 1938, in New London, CT the son of the late John C. and Etta (Deutch) Shabarekh. Norm was born and raised in New London. He was a longtime musician who played both the bass guitar and the trumpet in several bands throughout the area most notably with Standing Room Only and with Men of the Sun. Norm was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Windsor Locks and a member of the Knights of Columbus Riverside Council # 26. He enjoyed playing and listening to music of the bands of the Big Band Era, Jazz music and especially his nephews, band, Toto. Norm was a fan of the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, UCONN Men and Women’s basketball teams. In addition to his wife Liz, he is also survived by a son Norman Shabarekh and his wife, Kimberly of Myrtle Beach, SC; two brothers, John C. Shabarekh, Jr. and his wife, Lucy of Groton, CT, William E. Shabarekh and his wife, Linda Bilodeau of West Hartford, CT; two grandchildren, Marissa E. Shabarekh and Joshua R. Shabarekh; a sister -in-law, Josephine Sinopoli and her husband, Vincent of Rocky Hill; a brother-in-law, Joseph Porcaro and his wife, Eileen of Thousand Oaks, CA and several nieces and nephews. Norman was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Samuel J. Porcaro and Dominic J. Porcaro. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Thursday, February 16, 2017, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A Mass of Christian Burial for Norm will be celebrated on Friday, February 17, 2017, at 9 am at St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks. Please meet at the church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Norm may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
