Obituary for Karen E. Marinone

Karen E. Marinone
Karen E. Marinone, 64, of Old Lyme, CT passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Patricia (White) Marinone and the late Joseph W. Marinone. Born and raised in Windsor Locks, Karen lived there prior to moving to Old Lyme in 2014 to be with her mother. She graduated from Windsor Locks High School in 1971 and St. Anselm College, NH in 1975 with a BSN nursing degree. She worked in Hartford in Pediatrics for 3 yrs., and then19 years in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. In 1998-1999 she traveled cross-country working as a travel nurse primarily in Colorado. Upon her return from out West, Karen did some temporary work in local NICUs, before settling on working with Bristol Hospital Telenurse, based in Bristol, CT. The TeleNurse in company was bought out by Intellicare, of Portland, Maine, which still allowed Karen to work as a tele-health nurse working at home and serving clients all over the country. She worked with Intellicare and SironaHealth Company for several years and through several corporate name changes. During her tenure with telephone triage, Karen made 2 exciting trips to Israel, the first with the CEU and president of the company, to train American born and US educated nurses for the company. Karen retired from SironaHealth in the summer of 2016. In addition to her mother, Patricia Marinone she is also survived by her sisters and their families, Susan Salzillo and Elliot Penna of Old Lyme, Debbie and Jim Seymour of Windsor Locks, Laurie and Norman Anderson of Westport, MA and her brother Bill and Lynn Marinone of Windsor Locks, CT. Karen had many special nieces and nephews, scores of work colleagues, and countless friends who will miss her. She loved skiing in VT at Stratton and Bromley, and recently had a big ski reunion weekend in late March on Bromley Mountain. She was also an avid fisherwoman with her sister, Sue, and would spend endless mornings on her boat out in Long Island Sound, catching flounder, porgie, and sea bass along with many trips to Quincy and Boston Harbor for charters with her family. Karen, you were a true inspiration to us, not only how you lived your life and how you touched so many with your special care and concern, but also how you lovingly guided and mentored us. You are an amazing person. You faced this monster illness head on, head up and with strength and grace, courage and a smile. You are our hero, we all love you and will miss you. Per Karen's request, there will be no calling hours and funeral services and burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. A special thank you to Dr. Alessia Donadio and the oncology staff at St. Francis Hospital Cancer Center. The family has requested that any donations be made to the Smilow Cancer Center at St. Francis, 2nd Floor. Hematology and Oncology Department. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Windsor Locks Funeral Home. For online expressions of sympathy please visit www.windsorlocksfuneralhome.com
