Walter A.  Juniewicz
Lt. Walter A. Juniewicz (Enfield Police Dept. Retired), 82, of Enfield, husband of the late Wilhelmina "Billie" (Lindsey), passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday June 7, 2017 at his residence. The son of the late Chester and Katarzyna (Ludwin), Walter was born and raised in Enfield and was a lifelong resident of the community he lived and served in. He was a graduate of Enfield high School, class of 1952. He was a well-trained radioman serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He also served his hometown with the Enfield Police Dept. from 1965-1986 retiring after 21 years as Lieutenant with the force. Walt was known as a history buff, always sharing interesting facts and information on all subjects, especially local history about the town. He was very kind to others and will be remembered as a very selfless and caring person. He is survived by two children, Walter C. Juniewicz and his wife Valerie of Columbia, SC, Jennifer Mercik and her husband Robert of West Suffield, a step daughter, Karen Freville; two sisters, Frances Buckley of Somers, Jenny Hryniewicz and her husband Peter of Windsor Locks; two grandchildren, Rene Tautic, Rachel Burgess and her daughter Zoey; his best friend, Carman DiFranco and his wife Kathy; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Walt was predeceased by two step-children, Roseann Tautic and Leon Freville, a brother, Bruno Juniewicz, and a sister, Helen Hryniewicz. Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Ave., Enfield. Committal is private. Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and the Enfield Police Dept. Donations in Walter's memory may be made to the Enfield Police Benevolent Assn., PO Box 3447, Enfield, CT 06083.
