Obituary for Mike

Mike
Who is my father you ask? Well to best describe him, one could accomplish this by stating his fondness for acronyms. Be it OCD, VCR, or yes, even FOX. He could never pass up a good grouping of consecutive words abbreviated by their corresponding first letters, or GGOCWABTCFL. He was born in November of 1941 to quite the lovely pair of goatherders, Edith & Wildon, in the Western Province of Nebraska, in a small town known as Humboldt. He grew up along with his sister Deborah and brother Douglas. It was here where he developed his affinity for the clarinet and programming computers. He joined the 2 nd Humboldt Orchestra at 12, although they didn’t have much of a need for a clarinet playing computer programmer, so he abandoned the clarinet and pursued his greatest passion, compulsively obsessing about the perfect clam dip recipe. Time travel to CT at the age of 34, where he and his loving and dedicated wife Suzanne, brought home their first bundle of joy, a blue Dodge Aspen station wagon with wood trim. Shortly after, they filled that bundle of joy with 2 highly adorable children, myself and my kind-hearted sister Sharon. As the years rolled on, he would enjoy life with his small but close family, including his sister Deborah and her husband Ralph, his brother Douglas and his husband Lenny, and his niece Michelle and her lovely daughter Katelynn. He was also fortunate enough to have a very delightful granddaughter, Brianna. This folksy story doesn’t stop there. He had plenty more love from the multitude of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends who were spread far and wide through the states of CT, FL, ME, NC, NY, OR, & VT. He also had the love and support from his First Baptist Church family of Enfield, CT. My father passed from Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease in the morning of June 28 th doing what he did best, snoring loudly. So who is my father? A quirky guy, yes, but it’s okay. In this family, we prefer quirky. Life’s much more entertaining that way. We love & miss you Dad. A special thanks to the entire medical team at Hartford Hospital for their tireless and dedicated care of our beloved Mike. Your efforts won’t be forgotten. All arrangement will be handled by Leete-Stevens in Enfield and a private service will be held at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor, CT. In lieu of flowers or used VHS tapes, our family asks that memorials be made towards the CJD foundation. Please check out https://cjdfoundation.org/ for information on this very rare and untreatable disease. Spread the word.
