Matthew J.  Porcello
Matthew J. Porcello, 77, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 10, 2017, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire while vacationing with them. Matthew was celebrating the memory of his childhood sweetheart, and his wife of 57 years, Nancy (Bourgeoise) Porcello, at the favorite beach they enjoyed throughout their years together. He was a lifelong resident of Enfield. Born on February 29, 1940, in Enfield, he was the 8th of 9 children born to the late John and Lillian (Alaimo) Porcello. He was class President of Enfield High School Class of 1958, and was captain of the baseball and basketball teams. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a mechanical engineer. He worked at Stanadyne in Windsor and retired from there in 1979 when he purchased his family's business, Porcello's, Inc., which was first opened in 1925. Matthew worked for over 40 years alongside his wife, Nancy where he served as President of the company. Matt was a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick's Church and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society, Enfield. Matt was also a member of the Washington Irving Council No. 50 Knights of Columbus and recently took the oath as a faithful navigator with the Rev. William P. Kilcoyne Assembly # 116 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was inducted into the Town of Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame - 1953 Thompsonville Grey's LL State Champions. Matt spent his life enjoying his family and friends, bringing laughter and humor to all. Matt is survived by his two daughters, Kimberly Novak of Hebron and Melissa Gurry and her husband, Todd of South Windsor; his four beloved grandsons, Ryan and Ethan Gurry, and Gavin and Aiden Novak; a brother, Charles Porcello of Enfield; two sisters, Rose Porcello of Enfield and Ida Andreone of GA and many nieces and nephews. Matt was predeceased by three brothers, James, Tony and Leo Porcello and two sisters, Angelina Brooks Silansky and Lena Scalia Licardo. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Saturday, July 15, 2017, from 9 am to 11 am at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral procession will gather at 11 am at the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:30 am at St. Patrick's Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick King Street Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Matthew's memory may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children (Burn Care Unit) 51 Blossom St. Boston, MA 02114.
