Obituary for Claudius W. "Claude" Rackliffe Jr.

Claudius W. "Claude" Rackliffe, Jr., 87, of Enfield loving husband of 62 years to the late Patricia (Brissette) Rackliffe entered into Eternal Rest on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Johnson Memorial Hospital. Claude was born June 2, 1930, in Springfield, MA the son of the late Claudius W. Sr. and Mary (Shumay) Rackliffe. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War as a Sonar Technician. Claude retired from Hamilton Standard in 2000 after working for more than 25 years as Quality Engineer. He was an avid golfer and spent many hours on the golf course with his wife, Pat. He was a longtime member of the Hamilton Standard Golf League and still looked forward to playing weekly with fellow retirees. Claude was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church in Enfield, a member of the Enfield Lions Club and served as a Boy Scout Leader. He was a history buff and enjoyed visiting historical sites and reading books on American and World history. He was pure of spirit, always seeing the good in others and the positive in every situation. Claude cherished time spent with his family especially his granddaughters, never missing an important event in their lives. He is survived by his two children, Carey Rackliffe and her husband, Michael Mamuszka of South Glastonbury; and Christopher Rackliffe and his friend Susan Antilla of Hebron; his two granddaughters, Lauren and Alyssa Mamuszka and several nieces and nephews. Claude was predeceased by a brother, Bruce Rackliffe. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Saturday, September 30, 2017, from 9 am to 10 am at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral service for Claude will be celebrated at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery.
