Obituary for Edward J. Jekot Sr.

Edward J. Jekot, Sr., 78, of Somers, CT loving husband of Marilyn (Bateman) Jekot entered into Eternal Rest on Wednesday, January 31, 2018,in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. Ed was born August 5, 1939, in Enfield, CT the son of the late Frances (Olechny) Jekot and Walter Jekot. Ed proudly served in the CT Air National Guard from 1956 to 1962. He was an elected official for 10 years with the Town of Somers as Tax Collector. He retired in 2017 from the S.B.A. (U.S. Small Business Administration) after over 30 years of dedicated service. Ed was active in town affairs and involved with many civic organizations. He was a faithful parishioner of All Saints Church and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4303 in Somers. Ed was an avid outdoorsman and member of the Somers Sportsmen's Association. In addition to his wife, Marilyn to whom he was married 53 years, Ed is also survived by four children, Darlene Cyr and her husband, Brett of Enfield, Frances Kula and her husband, Peter of Enfield, Edward J. Jekot, Jr. of Columbus, OH, and Wayne Jekot and his fiancee, Deborah Abrams of Canton, CT; his seven grandchildren, Amanda Cumbo and her husband, Will, Steven Milotte, Danielle and Samantha Cyr, Stephanie and David Kula and Hugh Jekot ; four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Autumn, Avery, and William; a brother, Dr. Walter Jekot, Jr.; a sister, Cynthia Wesch and her husband, James of Enfield and several nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by a brother, Robert W. Jekot and a sister, Mary Lynde. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Monday, February 5, 2018, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St. (Route 190), Somers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints Church, 25 School St., Somersville at 10 am. Please meet at the church. Burial with military honors will be held in St. Adalbert’s Cemetery in Enfield. Memorial contributions in memory of Ed may be made to the Livestrong Foundation, P.O.
