Obituary for Sherry A. Stevens (Paquette)

Sherry A. (Paquette) Stevens, 71, of Enfield, a beautiful wife, a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted sister, and wonderful friend to many, by her own wishes, chose to go with God and be at peace eternally, Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton "Bratinin," FL. She was born in Springfield, MA, and was raised by her late mother, Mary Beverly (Sherry) Caban and her husband, Edward Caban. She began her career as a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She married her husband Richard "Dick" K. Stevens of 47 years and moved to Longmeadow, MA where they resided for several years before moving to Enfield. Sherry continued her career in nursing at St. Joseph's Residence in Enfield for several years. She was a member of the Woman's Club of Enfield. If you knew Sherry, then you knew how important family and friends were to her. She enjoyed entertaining and having family, friends, and neighbors over for food, drinks and good conversation. She was always happiest when guests were well fed and enjoying the moment. While she didn't coin the phrase, "please have some more," she did use it redundantly ensuring no one left without a full stomach, and leftovers to take home. Stopping by to visit was also an automatic invitation for a Vodka Tonic, a.k.a."V-T." No piece of delectable chocolate was safe from her, as she kept many sweet treats available to share and enjoy with family and guests. Spending time at her Rhode Island beach house in the summer with family, and making new friends at her villa in FL also highlighted her hosting experiences. Sherry had a gift for decorating and loved to transform rooms into beautiful and cozy spaces. She also loved shopping at her favorite stores always in search of the right piece for the right place. She smiled brightest when her grandchildren visited as they were often positive motivation for her to keep fighting all the way to the end.

Besides her husband Dick, she leaves a son, Sean Stevens and his wife Kendall of Suffield, a daughter, Sarah DeSimone and her husband Shawn of Dover, NH; her three loving grandchildren, Chase and Fischer Stevens, and Sophia DeSimone. She also leaves her sister, Jane Long and her husband John of Suffield, as well as several nieces, a nephew, great nieces and great nephews, and her grand-dogs Caesar and Rzeka. Her backyard friends including the squirrels and many seasonal birds will miss her generosity of daily food donations on the back porch. Family and friends will gather for visitation hours Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday March 23, 2018 at St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Ave., Enfield (Please meet at Church). Committal will follow at Enfield Street Cemetery. Donations in Sherry's memory may be made to the Enfield Rotary Scholarship Fund, PO Box 1, Enfield, CT 06083.
