Obituary for William "Bill" Kearns

William "Bill" Kearns
William Francis Kearns, 85, of Windsor Locks, CT, joined the angels and saints on May 3, 2018 after a long and courageous illness. Bill was born in Providence, RI the son of the late William and Agnes (Demers) Kearns. Bill spent his childhood in Westerly, RI, graduating from Westerly High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps. Bill was employed at Hamilton Standard, served on the Windsor Locks Police force, and retired from Klock Corporation, Manchester, CT.

Bill married the love of his life, Charlene Sheridan Kearns, moving to Windsor Locks where they raised their family. He was a devoted husband and father who loved camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, and especially time spent along the shores of the Rhode Island beaches. He was best known for his home-made clam chowder, deep-fried donuts, snickerdoodle cookies, and homegrown tomato sauce. Picking fresh blueberries and making blueberry pancakes was the breakfast highlight of family vacations and sleep-overs with the grandchildren.

Bill was a devoted communicant within the St. Mary Church parish family, serving as Eucharistic minister for many years and visiting the homebound. He was also active with the Knights of Columbus Riverside Council # 26.

Bill is lovingly survived by his wife of 64 years, Charlene Sheridan Kearns, and their children: Cynthia (William) Niedbala, Maureen Kearns, Kevin (Karen) Kearns, Kathy (Bob) Caso, John Kearns, Kristine (Bill) Caswell, and Eileen (Kevin) Dwelley. Bill also leaves ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Agnes Aurelia Hawkins.

The family expresses sincere gratitude for the attentive and compassionate care provided by the nurses, CNAs, therapists, and staff at Suffield House and Masonicare.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks.
