Obituary for Jose L "Joe" Reyes

Jose L "Joe" Reyes
Jose L. "Joe" Reyes, 55, of Windsor Locks, loving husband of Donna (Engelmann) Reyes passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on June 10, 2018. Joe was born August 21, 1962, in the Bronx, NY to the late Angel L. and Irma (Garcia) Reyes. Joe and his family moved to Springfield, MA in 1975 and he has been a resident of Windsor Locks since 1996. Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June of 1981 and was honorably discharged in June of 1984. He worked for several years at the Western Massachusetts Hospital in Westfield as a Campus Police Officer. Prior to working at the hospital, Joe was the Head of Security at the Monarch Place in Springfield.

He and Donna were united in Holy Matrimony on June 2, 2001 and celebrated 17 wonderful years together. In addition to his wife, Donna, he is also survived by two children, Chelsea Reyes and her companion Riiah Mitchell of Enfield and Eric Reyes of Windsor Locks; a grandson, Maximilian Mitchell; a sister, Rachel Hernandez and her husband Sergio of Granby, MA; a nephew, Sergio Hernandez, Jr. and his wife Anna of Chicopee; his mother-in-law, Cynthia Wiley of Suffield and father-in-law, Justin Engelmann of East Windsor.
Joe Reyes was an honorable man in every sense of the word. He loved and respected his wife and children, helped his neighbors, served his country, was an amazing friend and vigorously supported the town’s youth programs. Joe was proud of his service with the United States Marine Corps, and the children he coached in baseball, basketball and soccer. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and New York Yankees. He was a bright spot in our community, and the center of our family’s universe.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral service celebrating Joe's life will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018, at 9 am at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veteran's Cemetery in Agawam.
