Richard Arnold Downs, 80, a kind and gentle man, went to be with the Lord on June 21, 2018 at his home in Enfield. His years of illness behind him, he is at peace. He was born in Hartford on January 28, 1938, the youngest child of the late Joseph and Mary (Burnett) Downs and was the beloved husband of Carol (Mascola) Downs for almost 60 years. After retiring from Combustion Engineering, he enjoyed many years of travel, enjoying his home in Wilmington, Vermont and time in Hawaii during the winters. He and his wife took their grandchildren on many trips hoping he would leave them with happy memories. Rich was proud to be a United States Marine, having served with VMA-211, the Wake Island Avengers; attending yearly reunions throughout the country. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of Enfield Elks #2222, a member of the Marine Corps League and Marine Corps Association. He leaves his children and their spouses who gave him wonderful care in the past few weeks and years of love: Kelly and Lee Pascoe, Richard and Susan Downs, Susan Downs and Thomas Healey, and Scott and Denise Downs, and his grandchildren who brought him so much joy: Amber, Devin, and Colin Pascoe, Craig and Jacob Downs, Macey and Griffin Downs. He also leaves Kevin, Bryan and Paul Healy, whom he loved like sons. He was predeceased by his grandson Eric Pascoe and his siblings, Robert, Sherman, Joseph, and Roberta, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rosemarie and John Healy and their son, John. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for calling hours on Monday, June 25, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 pm, with an Elk's Service to be held at 6:30 pm at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, CT 06082.
