George Michael  Hall
George M. Hall, 89, of Windsor Locks, beloved husband of Jane (Vandeweghe) Hall for 62 years, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Hartford, he graduated from Hartford Public High School, attended Abbey Prep, Hillyer College, and was a graduate from the UCONN School of Insurance. He was a retired senior claims officer for CT Transit. While at Hartford High, he played baseball, track, as well as football, receiving all state honors in football, and also earned three winners in baseball, football, and basketball while at Abbey Prep. He served his country honorably in the United States Army serving with the 43rd division Military Police during the Korean War. While in the service, he played basketball and baseball on the company team. Following his military service, he played semi-pro football and semi-pro baseball. He was a life-time member of the American Legion and VFW. In 1965, He served as assistant coach for the Hartford High freshman football and basketball teams and in 1966 he was the varsity football team’s assistant coach. George was the head coach of the Windsor Locks Chief's pony football team from 1970–1976. In 1972, his Chief’s team won the Northern Division championship. He was an assistant coach with the Windsor Locks American Legion baseball team from 1975 to 1985. In 1969, George was selected as sportsman of the year by the VFW. In 2003, he joined Coach Dave Farr as assistant coach of the Windsor Locks High School baseball team. During his tenure as assistant coach, the team won three conference championships, three conference playoff championships, and back-to-back state championships in 2005 and 2006. For all of his volunteerism in sports, he was inducted into the Windsor Locks Athletic Hall of Fame in November 2009.
George was a member of the Windsor Locks Democratic Town Committee and was past chairman serving 14 years. He was also past chairman of the Windsor Locks Police Commission, of which he was a member for over 30 years. He was a member of the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association and the Interstate Police Association, and served as a delegate to several local and state Democratic conventions.George was an avid Red Sox fan and UCONN sports fan. Besides his wife Jane, he leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and the Leni Hall, of Holbrook, Long Island, a nephew Michael Hall and a niece Barbara Jan, a nephew Douglas Edwards, as well as his best friends Dave Farr and his wife Sue, and Daniel and Victoria Walsh of Windsor Locks. He was predeceased by a sister-in-law Peggy Edwards. Visitation hours will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Windsor Locks funeral home. Committal, with military honors, will follow at Saint Mary's cemetery.
